In our current time, content is king. This means at some point you will need to shoot a video. This could be going live on social media or just making a recording of yourself to post up after editing. Regardless, recording yourself can be an unnerving process. Today I am going to tell you how to make it easier on yourself. Let’s get started!

Tip #1: Find a Quiet Spot

Audio is one of the most important things. What’s the point of the video if they can’t hear you? Regardless of if you do or don’t have an external microphone, you need to make sure that you are in a quiet area. If you are next to a window, you could be next to a busy street. This would cause background noise in your recording. You won’t notice it until you are done. Background noise is distracting and also gives the feel of a lower quality recording. This also helps you adjust the audio of your microphone.

Tip #2: Find Your Best Lighting

Lighting is the second most important thing when recording. No one wants to watch a video with dim lighting. Keep in mind that dim lighting makes you look less authoritative. It will weaken whatever conversion you are hoping your video will produce.

There are two options here. You can either find a good place with natural light. You can also buy lighting. The ideal lighting is from a combination of both. The best way to do this is to find the brightest room in your home or office. The lighting will change obviously due to what time of the day it is. Figure out what time of the day will produce the best lighting and post up there. Once you figure this and your audio out, you will be set.

Tip #3: Get Your Angles Right

This is important. You don’t want to have the person watching the video staring at your forehead or chin the whole time. You want to have them looking at you like you are having a conversation. Eye to eye contact is what you are aiming for. There are multiple ways to do this. If your laptop has an HD camera you can adjust your screen to get the perfect view. If you have an external camera you can use a tripod to get the perfect angle. If you are using your phone, try and use books to help prop up your phone handsfree. Remember no one wants to watch a recording of you that looks like “Cloverfield”. You do not want a shaky looking video.

Tip #4: Use The Best Camera Available

This should be a no brainer here. You want the best quality shots here period. If you have an iPhone or a newer smartphone they all have 4k cameras. The trick here is it isn’t on the front. It’s on the back. I know, you may be wondering how to set it up. If you have a smartwatch you can view it through the camera app on it. If not you can run a couple of tests to see how it records. If not,  I would suggest purchasing a tripod for your phone. Most laptops have good cameras on the front of them now. There are 4k cameras that are relatively cheap as well if you are looking for a stand-alone camera.

Tip #5: Do a Test Run

This goes without saying. Record a couple of 10-second tests to find your recording sweet spot. This will help you figure out how your audio and video will look to the viewer. You want to make sure you don’t record a 15-minute video only to find out the viewer is staring at your chin or your audio isn’t there. Testing is important so you don’t waste your time and then have to remake it.

Tip #6: Be Honest With Your Audience

Being honest with your audience. You aren’t here to be a used car salesman. Tell the audience where you are recording. If you are recording from home or in a studio, let them know. If it is the first time recording or your 100th, let them know. Being honest with prospective or current customers is the way to build relationships on a personal level.

Ask for feedback when you are done. This is especially helpful for social media. This builds engagement through your comments and will help keep your content in front of as many eyes as possible

If you are making videos for paid memberships, ask the audience what they would like to hear. Ask them what you could do to make your videos better. This will make them more attached to your product. In all of these things, your relationship with your audience will build increasingly.

There you go. Those 6 tips will make your videos perfect. All you need to do is create the content no. I hope you found this helpful. ‘Till next time.
